Animation & Game
I did my bachelors degree at the Animation and Game study course at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.
As part of the game degree I learned principles of animation and developing games, specializing in programming and game design.
In the first semester, students get taught the basics of several disciplines related to animations and game development, such as 2D animation, 3D modeling, rigging, lighting, and animation, production management, game design, and programming with C++.
Then in the 2nd semester, students choose what they want to specialize on, where I chose game development and technical art, meaning that I learned game development with Unity as well as continuing to learn skills such as 3D modeling with Maya and Blender.
Each semester from the second semester onwards (with the exception of the internship semester in the 4th semester), students conceptualize and propose ideas for animation and games, from which project teams will form. These projects are semester projects, acting as a simulation of the games industry, having to complete the project within ~3 months, having milestones such as greenlight, and having weekly coachings with professors.
For the 7th semester, students write their bachelor thesis, which consists out of a prior research paper, as well as developing a bachelor thesis project along writing the bachelor thesis itself.
