Logline
CARD is a replayable colorful deck builder with witty humour, in which the player must rely on their ability to ascertain their opponent's preferred love language in meaningful conversations and strategize around those to win them over in a CARD game.
Short summary
In cards agaisnt relationship disputes (CARD), every conflict is resolved with card battles. In order to stop the evil that is attacking the city, the player has three days to prepare and gather information on the evil, gather new cards for their decks, or recruit heroes to gain their ability in card battles. To do this, players choose a location where they will find a hero. Each time you play a hero has a different love language which can be found out in a dialogue with them. After the dialogue, the player chooses 1 of 5 decks, each based around a love language, to battle the hero. If the battle is won, players get new cards to add to any of their decks, and can choose to find out about the evils love language, acquire more cards, or to team up with the beaten hero.
Development context
CARD was developed during my 6th Animation & Game semester together with 3 other students from my semester and two Sound, Music and Production students.
Roles and contributions
Sole programmer
As the sole programmer of the project, I implemented the user interface, created my own dialogue system, and implemented the card battle system. For the cards I made a system where new cards can easily be created through a scriptable object system and different possible card effects.
Lead game designer
As the lead game designer, I designed the main game loop, the day system, as well as the card game rules and how each deck and its cards work. For the card game rules I made an early paper prototype with two different decks to test out whether the mechanics work and are fun. Then the three other decks along additional reward cards for each deck were designed.
